Instagram is fast becoming one of the big players in the social media industry. Companies without an Instagram page are slowly becoming extinct, with large corporations such as Apple and Amazon stating that Instagram is pivotal in their marketing strategy.

To hook your audience, it is important to master the art of content generation. Posting images that compel audiences and ignite emotions are key to building a positive brand image and attracting a loyal customer base. However, timing is everything. What is the benefit of posting fantastic content when nobody is going to see it?

So how do you know the best time to post content for your specific audience?

The best way to find an ideal posting time is by testing the timing of your posts to see which post time generates the most audience engagement.

Well Sprout Social, has you covered. This year, they analyzed customer data to see what time and day their social media posts generated the most engagement. They also segmented the data by social network and industry.

Here is what they found:

Best Times: Wednesday at 3:00 PM, Thursday at 5:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, & 4:00 PM , and Friday at 5:00 AM

Best Day: Thursday

Most Consistent Engagement: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM from Tuesday to Friday

Worst Days: Sunday and Monday

Here are some more insights about optimal post timing:

Posting at 5:00 AM from Tuesday to Friday generates some of the highest engagement — people usually check their phones right when they wake up.

Posting from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the weekdays also generates a lot of engagement — people usually check their phones during lunch or when they start to run out of mental energy toward the end of the work day.

If you want to post on the weekends, post on Saturday around 11:00 AM when people eat brunch or hang out with their friends.

This data is more general and a fantastic starting point. Sprout social then looked at more industry based statistics. They focussed on organizations in the technology, B2C, education, healthcare, and non-profit industries.
